We are second in the People & Planet University Green League

We are incredibly proud to announce that the University of Bedfordshire has been awarded second place in the UK in the 2022/23 People & Planet University Green League.

These new rankings see us placed FIRST in England and the South East region (out of 125 institutions). 

This incredible result reinforces our commitment to a sustainable teaching environment and climate-friendly future. Our University scored an impressive 81.3% this time round (up from 75.2% last year which saw us in 8th place). Areas in which we scored highly include carbon reduction, ethical careers and recruitment, renewable energy sources, waste management and recycling.  

People & Planet is the largest student network in the UK which campaigns for social and environmental justice. Each year, the People & Planet University League measures a number of environmental areas including carbon and water reduction, the use of alternative energy sources, sustainable food and recycling. Bedfordshire has appeared in the top ten rankings of these awards since 2018 and these latest rankings really hone in on our student and staff willingness and commitment to living and learning sustainably.

Universities like ours play a key role in influencing change and community mindset around important issues such as the environment, climate change and sustainability, so we will continue to work with stakeholders and influencers to ensure positive outcomes for future generations.
