Bank holiday, Monday 19 September

It has now been confirmed Monday 19 September, is the date of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s State Funeral, and it will be a national bank holiday.

We are happy to honour the bank holiday, ensuring you have time to pay your respects to the Queen and commemorate her reign. The bank holiday marks the final day of the period of national mourning.

Please note you do not need to book the day as holiday on itrent and we will credit the day back if you have already booked it.

Monday 19 September is the first day of Welcome Week, with new students on campus for the first time. All our official Welcome Week activities including academic inductions will now start on the Tuesday 20 September, but we have ensured there are spaces available on Monday for students to meet and socialise, and mark this special day.

• Beds SU will be opening both the Metro in Luton and the Hub in Bedford between 10am – 8pm. There will be food and drink available to purchase and they are televising the funeral for students who wish to watch it together.
• In University accommodation, cake and tea will be available 10am -2pm in the common rooms in both Luton and Bedford.
• Our Bedford and Luton Campus libraries are open 8.30am – 10pm. Our Milton Keynes, Aylesbury, London, Birmingham and Putteridge Bury campuses are closed to students on Monday 19 September.

The bank holiday will be a unique national moment and I hope the time away from work will give the opportunity for you to pay your last respects.
