MyBedsLife Student App

The contract for our student app came up for tender in 2024. After a rigorous process, we have selected a new supplier that provides better value for money for the University, along with a better quality and more attentive customer service from the new supplier. We have now had the opportunity to build a brand new app with improved personalisation features, specifically offering students the chance to see their personal teaching and exam schedules.

• Enhanced integration with our timetable system, giving students personalised access to their teaching and exam schedules.
• A cleaner, more user-friendly design, developed in collaboration with our students and who told us in testing, is easier to read and navigate compared to the previous app.
• Quick access to upcoming classes, displaying what, when, and where their next teaching sessions are.
• Instant email notifications, allowing students to see their unread email count at a glance.
• Seamless library interactions, including current loans, messages from the library team, pending requests, and any outstanding fines—all in one place.
• Optimised tile layout, reorganised based on usage statistics to ensure students have quick access to their most used and most needed features.
• Students chose a fresh, colourful, and accessible tile design that is compliant with accessibility standards.
• More prominent scrollable banner which makes it easier to advertise key support services and events to students.
• Customisable accessibility settings, allowing students to adjust features such as high-contrast mode for better visibility.
• More user-friendly maps tile which provides more information on where things are and the facilities that are available
• New and improved events tile which seamlessly integrates with our University events calendar, presenting our events in a more professional and engaging way

Over the coming year there are a number of other developments planned to continue to enhance the app's offering to our students. 

Some of the planned upgrades include: 

• Daily alerts and updates in addition to our news tile
• To consider a programme of work to obtain a reliable source of roles data, e.g. student / staff, first year etc, from SITS, then the app will be more personalized to the end user
• Booking a gym session or a PT appointment for the gym
• Study space availability
• Study space/room booking
• Attendance monitoring
• My attendance history
