Purpose
The purpose of the University's 121 and review process is broadly:
- To enable you and your manager to review your performance over the previous year
- This will be reviewed after six-months
- To reflect upon the implications of changing work practice
- To agree personal objectives in relation to departmental and University priorities for the forthcoming year.
- To identify and agree training and development needs
Process
The annual period of PDR reviews is 1st June - 31st August and the six-month review period is 1st January – 30th April.
- PDRs should be completed by the end of August.
- Staff in their probationary periods should not complete an online PDR. The probationary booklet should be completed instead, in keeping with the review schedule (at the end of the first month, after 3, 6, and 9 months with the final review taking place at 12 months).
- Throughout the year, regular 121s should be taking place between line managers and their teams, where the PDR/probationary booklet can be used as guide for conversations.
What else do I need?
We also run workshops for line managers in preparation for appraisals. These includes sessions on:
- Setting Objectives
- Identifying Training & Development Needs
- The PDR System
