As part of the recently introduced AED equipment, which is now available across all campuses of the University, we would like to offer this simple presentation (video below) to enable better understanding of what an AED is, and how it can help save a life in an emergency cardiac arrest situation.
While no formal training is required to use this fully automated type of equipment (as each unit provides clear voice over instructions on opening and automatically "fail" safe - meaning that it cannot discharge an electrical output where one is not required), this 9 minute presentation describes how this equipment works, when it should be used and most importantly, how to apply it. This will ensure users have confidence and self-assurance and enable them to apply it wherever required.
It should be noted that wherever an AED is used in an emergency situation, users MUST ensure that a 999 call has been made to the emergency medical services and a local First Aider summoned to the scene.
