Performance Development Review

Performance Development Review 2026/27

The Performance Development Review (PDR) system is now open, and all PDRs should be completed by 31 October 2026.

Alongside this year's process, we are also reviewing how PDRs can be improved. Following feedback from our recent Staff Survey, we are working with our internal auditors to review the current process and would like to hear about your experiences.

Please take a few minutes to complete our PDR feedback survey by Friday 31 July. Your feedback will help us understand what works well, what could be improved, and shape the future development of the PDR process. If you would prefer to share your views through a conversation, please contact P&C@beds.ac.uk, and we will arrange for you to speak with the audit team.

While this review is underway, we will continue with the current PDR process for this year. The guidance and resources below will help you prepare for a meaningful PDR conversation with your line manager.

What is PDR?

The Performance Development Review (PDR) is a framework which encourages and enables constructive two way feedback between staff and their line manager. It is an opportunity both to reflect upon last year’s performance, achievements and personal development while looking forward for the next 12 months.

PDR offers a clear focus on aligning individual objectives to the overall strategic goals of the university, faculty and department, in addition to harnessing personal development and career growth.

By assessing the previous year’s performance, successes can be recorded and appropriate role related development needs and opportunities identified. It provides a platform for staff to engage and understand how their role fits with the strategic plan by agreeing SMART objectives.
