Our website is primarily recruitment focused. Covering both Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses, with a clear split between Home/EU and International students. It is seen internally as our key marketing tool for all markets, but also hosts University wide information and news.
One of our website's key features is that it is responsive and resizes accordingly depending on the device on which it is viewed (i.e. phone, tablet or desktop). The decision to design it in this way was mainly informed by our Google Analytics, which shows the continued increase in mobile visits.
We also give a large emphasis to search and with a bespoke 'course finder'. Again, as our analytics clearly show that this is how the majority of visitors are choosing to interact with us.
Much of our course content comes from our SITs database which is managed by our Planning/Quality departments and sent to the website via a nightly XML feed. Course leaders, with permission from their Head of School, can update course pages via the course update form.
Content on the website is updated on a devolved level. Although the Web team within Marketing look after many of the pages, a lot of content is updated by editors across the university and comes through a workflow, facilitated by the Web team.
We track every interaction on our website using Google analytics and provide bespoke reports to departments to engage them in any future developments. This is then discussed at our strategic meetings where we welcome suggestions on making global changes and improvements. These analytics inform the majority of our strategic decisions.
We are currently working towards our Web Strategy 2020 which can be downloaded here.
