I have responsibility for the compilation, quality assurance and submission of the HESA Student Return, as well as the Aggregate Offshore, Initial Teacher Training and Unistats returns. I am also required to act as a lead contact with HESA during the submission period of all the returns, meeting all deadlines, and answering any queries in an efficient and timely manner.
I also have responsibility for the management of two Information Analysts and in this capacity oversee work on student number reporting for senior members of the University, the production of data for the Annual Monitoring cycle, the production of the Individual Learner Record for apprenticeship provision, reporting of course information to the Student Loan’s Company, as well as fee set up on the Student Record System.
I have worked in the Higher Education sector since 2006 and have held roles in admissions, course administration, student records and external returns, so I have a well-rounded knowledge of operations across the student journey. Prior to moving into the Higher Education sector, I completed a degree in History (a subject that I still very much enjoy) and worked in private banking.
I am currently on secondment as a Senior Student Records Data Officer (External Returns). This involves responsibility for various statutory returns including UNISTATS, HESA Student, Aggregate Offshore and more. Within the HESA team we interpret and resolve errors at differing stages of validation in line with HESA guidance, in order to ensure assure high quality data submissions.
My preceding role within Student Records was Student Records Data Officer. This included the set up and maintenance of high quality course, unit and assessment information on the student record system following the quality approval process, and in line with external reporting requirements. I would troubleshoot issues arising on the student record system and provide advice to help resolve queries, also working with the Senior Student Records Officer (External Returns) to support the generation of the UNISTATS return as per HESA guidance and help fix errors for the student return.
I have worked in administrative roles for 11 years, with 8 of those being at the University of Bedfordshire. Before moving to Student Records I worked in the Business School as a Faculty Office Administrator, Departmental Administrator and then as a Programme Administrator. During my time in Student Records I also acted as the Senior Student Records and Training Officer for a fixed period. Prior to joining UoB I worked as Finance and Personnel Administrator at Ashcroft High School.
I am currently on secondment in the above role and I am responsible for compiling and assuring our external data returns for the HESA Student Return, as well as UNISTATS, Aggregate Offshore and Initial Teacher Training. I will also be involved in the planning, implementation and transition for the Data Futures Programme.
I have worked at the University of Bedfordshire for 8 years, and have worked predominantly as a Student Finance Officer, acting as the main point of contact for students and staff in respect of tuition fees and funding. I have also worked as an interim Administrator with the MBA Administration team supporting the MBA course provision in Oman.
Prior to working at the University, I worked in various roles in both Personal and Corporate banking, over a period of 22 years.
