Access to Student Data

This page explains how to request access to student data using the SITS (Student Record System), along with the responsibilities that come with that access.

Before submitting a request, you must read and agree to the Terms and Conditions below.

Terms and conditions

All users of the University's Corporate Information Systems are expected to adhere to the following code of conduct:

1. Computing facilities must be used only for the purpose for which they were granted.
2. No person shall make use of the user name, password and computing facilities allocated to another person.
3. No person shall attempt to discover another person's password, whether or not there is any intention to make use of this information.
4. No person shall attempt to gain access to data owned by another user without the permission of the owner.
5. No person shall by any wilful or deliberate act, or by failure to act with due and reasonable care, jeopardise the integrity of the computing equipment, its operating systems, programs or any other stored information which is not intended for their use, whether within the University or in other computing locations to which the facilities of the University allow connection.*
6. No person shall use electronic mail or any other similar electronic communication system in such a way as to cause wilful inconvenience or distress to other users.
7. Under the terms of the Data Protection Act 1984 you cannot divulge to any party outside the University any data that relates to individuals, which is held on a computer system (or word processor), unless registered to do so. Therefore no person shall pass data of the above type whether by electronic media, paper reports or verbally without prior consultation with the Director of Information Services.

*In this connection a user who divulges his or her password to another person will be deemed not to have exercised reasonable care.

Access to SITS (student record system)

To request access:

1. Visit uobservicedesk.beds.ac.uk and select Log in to Self-Service Portal.
2. Sign in using your University credentials.
3. From the Self Service Portal home page, select the SSD tile.
4. Locate the SITS Access to Student Data option in the Further Actions panel on the right-hand side.
5. Complete the form and select Submit when finished.

If you are unsure which level of SITS access you require, please check with your line manager before submitting your request.

Once submitted, you will receive email updates from the Service Desk. All requests must be approved by your line manager and the Academic Registrar.
