University Cleaning

Over the coming months, you may notice some changes in our cleaning and stewarding services. The reasons for this are twofold: the recent VS scheme has impacted our staffing capacity, and we are implementing a new departmental benchmarking exercise.

We will be trialing different ways of working so we may continue to effectively serve our students, staff and visitors across all campuses.

General

• You may see a reduction in the frequency of some cleaning around campuses.
• During quiet periods, we may close communal areas for deep cleaning.
• Due to shift patterns, you may see more cleaning taking place during office hours

Toilets (Daily)

• Replenish stock eg. soap/toilet paper
• Fully clean toilet
• Fully clean sinks and surround
• Fully clean mirrors
• Fully sweep/mop floor
• More cleaning during office hours
• During quiet periods some toilets maybe closed, we will signpost to your nearest

Restaurant/coffee areas

• Bins emptied by kitchen staff
• Sweep/vacuum and mop/scrub
• Wipe all surfaces

Classrooms per visit (minimum 2 visits per week)

• Pick up rubbish
• Spot vacuum
• Wipe desks, if time
• Wipe window ledges/any other surface, if time

Offices per visit (every 2 to 6 weeks)

• Cleaning between 10am - 2pm
• Vacuum
• Clean other surfaces, if time
• Desks are self clean, wipes supplied
• Tea points in offices are to be maintained by office users

Entrances per visit (up to 5 x weekly)

• Empty bins
• Sweep/vacuum and/or mop/mechanical scrub
• Wipe all surfaces

Corridors & Stairs Weekly or Fortnightly

• Main staircases are weekly with a daily check for debris and spillages
• Sweep/vacuum and/or mop

Afternoon Cleaner - Luton Campus only

• Toilet re-check in high usage areas
• Check & clean open areas
• Food/coffee outlets clean as required and empty bins
• On Call for spillages

Red & Green Bins

• No bins in classrooms
• No bins in small offices
• Bins are emptied daily or on a rota across all campuses jointly by the Stewards, Premises Officers and Cleaners

Out of Term Cleaning - We make best efforts to

• Clean/shampoo all classroom chairs
• Clean/shampoo all classroom and corridor carpets
• Scrub all hard-floors
• Scrub all walls
• Dust/damp wipe all surfaces eg. window ledges, filing cabinets, book cases etc.

What we don't do

• Fill/empty dishwashers
• Clean inside fridges
• Clean inside microwaves (apart from open areas)
• Empty personal (under desk) bins
