Cyber Essentials is a government-backed scheme overseen by the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC). It helps organisations demonstrate good cyber security practices, improving resilience against common cyber attacks and helping to protect sensitive data.
At the University, Cyber Essentials compliance is often required to support research funding and demonstrates our commitment to protecting systems, devices and data.
The scheme focuses on five technical control areas:
To achieve certification, organisations must apply appropriate security controls across each of these areas. The University currently holds Cyber Essentials certification and must renew this annually to maintain compliance.
