The Mental Health and Counselling Teams are available to support students.
The Mental Health Team provides problem‑solving support and teaches practical coping mechanisms and strategies to help students manage their difficulties. This team is responsible for triaging students; therefore, if you are uncertain whether a student requires mental health or counselling support, always refer them to the Mental Health Team, who will undertake the necessary assessments. Students will always have access to a Mental Health Advisor and may engage with support flexibly — some may only seek assistance during periods of crisis and not when things are going well.
The Counselling Service offers shorter‑term, goal‑focused support (typically six to eight sessions), helping students to develop coping strategies and identify solutions to their difficulties.
The main email address for mental health is mentalhealth@beds.ac.uk – this email is always staffed during working hours.
