Carriage of Dangerous Goods and Substances

University staff and students must not carry or send dangerous substances by rail, air, sea, or road unless they have been checked and packaged in accordance current regulation for Carriage of Dangerous Goods. Dangerous substances include hazardous chemicals, explosives, liquefied petroleum gases, highly flammable liquids, and biological agents hazardous to health.

The Carriage of Dangerous Goods and Use of Transportable Pressure Equipment Regulations 2009 (CDG Regs) and the European ADR agreement which together regulate the carriage of dangerous goods by road are highly prescriptive, quite complex and are subject to frequent change. Therefore, anyone needing to transport items that may be considered hazardous should contact the Health and Safety team in the first instance.
