As a way of giving something back and recognising the efforts and hard work of our staff, we have introduced a new staff benefit that will support your children who aspire to go to university.
If your child enrols, or is already enrolled, on a full time undergraduate course with us, then we will waive their fee for the Honours Year of their degree.
This benefit will apply to staff employed by or in the University.
For full details of eligibility please see below.

Terms and Conditions
- This benefit shall be available to employees of the University who have completed one year’s continuous service prior to the date of application under:
- Full or part time permanent contracts of employment; and/or
- A fixed term contract of employment
- The University will endeavour to confirm the outcome of the application within 30 days. No correspondence may be entered into and the University will not be obliged to provide reasons for declining an application if this is the outcome.
- Applications will only be considered for students who intend to register to study full time on an undergraduate course of the University. Eligible courses shall be limited to those undertaken at the University’s campuses, including study centres. Franchised and validated courses undertaken at partner institutions shall not be eligible.
- The student must meet all of the following criteria:
- Be a natural or legally adopted child of the employee making application. The employee shall include such supporting documentation as appropriate when submitting the application in order to demonstrate this. The University shall retain the right to request additional documentary evidence to confirm the employee/child relationship as a condition of approving the application;
- Have completed all years of the course prior to the Honours Year at the University (i.e. the student shall not have transferred onto the Honours Year or any pre-Honours Year after studying at another institution);
- Shall not be in debt to the University at the date of application by the employee.
- The Scholarship for any qualifying student in their Honours year shall equal the full fee for that year.
- Should the employee leave the University during the period of the Honours Year then the Scholarship shall be reduced in proportion to the effective leaving date of the employee and the expected end date of the course. The employee shall be liable for the resulting debt and shall be subject to the University's normal debt collection activity in this regard.
- Questions regarding the application will be directed to the employee, using contact details held by the University, however the employee shall note that under data protection legislation, the University will not be able to provide any personal information or verification of facts about the student to the employee at any time, including during the application period or during the subsequent period of study.
- The employee must note that provision of the scholarship will be reported to HMRC as a benefit-in-kind upon the employee and will therefore result in an additional tax liability upon the employee. The reported value shall be either:
- Imputed as the value of the scholarship compounded at the rate of interest which would have been applied by the Student Loans Company, compounded for 15 years if the student has been funded by the Student Loans Company in any or all of the years of their undergraduate studies prior to the Honours Year; or
- The tuition fee value without addition if the student has been self-funded or sponsored in all years of their undergraduate study prior to the Honours Year.
