Guidance for Researchers

Research has a somewhat privileged position under GDPR, which encourages knowledge-sharing. This inevitably means that the regulation applies differently to research than to other forms of processing.

If you are conducting research at the University of Bedfordshire, there are a number of guidance documents which will be relevant to you, so it is important that you are familiar with these:

• Most research at the University requires a Data Protection Impact Assessment, which is a risk assessment that needs to be done at the beginning of a project, before any processing of data begins. To find out if your project/processing triggers a DPIA, have a look at the checklist in our DPIA Guidance and DPIA Form
• Please also ensure you are familiar with our Guidance on Storing and Transferring Personal Data to ensure you are doing so in an appropriate way.

Please also ensure all USBs are encrypted using BitLocker.

Laptops should be hardware encrypted. ICT will be able to help you with this.
