The establishment of the University as a Higher Education Corporation took place in February 1993. The Privy Council conferred university status and the University of Luton came into being on 14 July 1993. The merger of the University of Luton and DeMontfort University's Bedford campus led to the formation of the University of Bedfordshire on 1 August 2006. For further details, please see the the Instrument of Government and the Privy Council letter, both of which are published on the publication scheme
Company and VAT number - the University's VAT number is 600498850. We have charitable status, and as a Higher Eduction Corporation, we're not a business. For more information about our legal status, please see the publication scheme. As we are not a company, we do not have owners, shareholders, directors, a company secretary or a parent company.
Some contracts are, however, put through University of Bedfordshire Enterprises, which does have a company and VAT registration numbers. You will need to contact Finance if you think your contract should be made out under Enterprises.
If you are asked about the operation and termination of previous contracts, please understand that we cannot provide any meaningful information, given the number and scope of the contracts the University has signed up to over the years. An appropriate answer to a question like "Has your organisation ever failed to perform to the terms of a contract?" would be "Not as far as we are aware".
Similarly, we cannot provide answers for the following questions about employees or employees' relatives, as we do not formally hold this information:
