Race Equality Charter Action Plan

As part of our application to the Race Equality Charter (REC) we have drafted an action plan to improve the representation, progression and success of minority ethnic staff and students. We now require your feedback to help shape our path forward.

Enhancing staff leadership and accountability for race equality

For example, all line managers to undertake anti-racist training

Strengthening governance structures to ensure diversity among staff in decision-making structures

For example, after the REC application submission, establish a high-level Race Equality Steering Group (RESG)

Implementing initiatives that enable recruitment, career development and progression of minority ethnic staff in senior leadership roles

For example, include a positive action statement for all job adverts that encourage minority ethnic and other underrepresented groups to apply for roles

Improving the sense of belonging of minority ethnic students and staff

For example, assess if spaces for religious practices are adequately sized and increase campus signage for prayer rooms

Building and promoting an anti-racist culture with local community engagement

Review staff and student policy, procedures and guidance related to acceptable behaviours through an anti-racist lens to ensure they are fit for purpose
